Michael Cooper, DVM – Chief of Staff
Dr. Michael Cooper, our Chief of Staff, purchased Portage Veterinary Clinic in 1985 when it was a dairy clinic, and transformed it into the trusted small animal veterinary practice it is today. He is a Portage native, having grown up here and he still lives here today. He attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for his undergraduate degree, and the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota for his DVM degree.
Dr. Cooper's professional interests include general medicine and surgery, but his favorite part about being a veterinarian is interacting with his clients. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, traveling, attending athletic events and concerts, and hiking and snowshoeing with his wife. They have a cat named Calae.
Samantha Ainsworth, DVM
Dr. Samantha Ainsworth has been part of the Portage Veterinary Clinic team since May 2017. She grew up in Shawano, WI on a dairy farm. Dr. Ainsworth received her undergraduate degree in Dairy Science from University of Wisconsin- Madison. She received her veterinary degree from Michigan State University.
Outside of work Dr. Ainsworth enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, camping, kayaking and snowboarding.
Bryan Schumacher, DVM
Dr. Bryan Schumacher has been part of the Portage Veterinary Clinic team since June 2015. He grew up in Eau Claire and currently lives in Windsor, WI. Dr. Schumacher received both his undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His special interests include neurology and surgery.
At home, Dr. Schumacher has two Labrador retrievers, both rescued from a humane society. He enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, hiking, kayaking, camping, downhill skiing, playing basketball and football, and activities and adventures with his dogs.
